appearance Awkward and formal. She straightens her hair every morning, from wavy to board-straight, but it tends to curl in heat and when she works out, and then she puts it up into a knot. She tries to look graceful and out-of-the-way, but is in the midst of a growth spurt and hasn’t adjusted to her new height and, as a result, usually looks out of place.

Douweis was born to a well-to-do family in rural Ohio, as her father (and then her oldest brother) were the two best big animal vets in an area with a lot of farms, her mother the only real pharmacist in the area, and another older brother has the local PhyEd and football coach for the high school she never actually ended up going to.

Life passed by quietly enough, consisting of school, church, boy scouts (not enough girls to have a girl scout), and the outdoors. She was easily the smartest person in her school (though no one would ever say that it was much of a challenge), so her teachers suggested putting her into a private school to take advantage of that. After some deliberations and testing, she was accepted into a few, often with scholarships attached to the acceptance. They went with Second Heaven in the end, as her father and mother worried that she wouldn’t be able to deal with the outside world after Crown City and it’s thousand inhabitants total.

Turns out, they were right on that. Second Heaven is a major culture shock to her, in possibly every way possible.

So far, Second Heaven scares her like nothing ever has before. The people are weird and occasionally up in her face, there were so many different types and languages and it is all just weird. She mostly tries to stay in the background and out of the way, but trips and falls, or accidentally knocks into someone else, or knocks their things down when she turns around, etc. She reacts mostly with embarrassment and trying to ignore that it just happened, once she makes sure that the other person is okay.


Under it, she’s incredibly competent and quick, able to work out most things in little time on paper. As long as no one looks at her, she could figure out her way through everything. It’s just the second she knows she’s being watched, she trips up somehow.
